If you saw the show back when you were young, and are re-watching it through rose-coloured glasses, maybe you will find it just as enjoyable as you once did. For me, it was an extremely frustrating watch due to so much backtracking of plot and character development. I was angry by the Part 1 ending of Alchemy of Souls, but the payoff from that show was good. Full House is just not fun.

FRUSTRATION is the feeling I get when watching this show. I understand the drama was considered groundbreaking back when it was released and helped popularise the “romantic comedy” genre, but by today's standards I think it is extremely frustrating to watch. I understand and appreciate that not all dramas have a happy ending, but the point of a romantic comedy is to help me laugh at silly things and most importantly, must allow the characters to grow towards a happy ending that they deserve. The show teases character growth and a happy ending a lot, but several times the end of the episode just swings back so hard you can't help but feel like you're being insulted. OK you can do this a few times to keep the drama and the plot intrigue, but too many and you will just lose the audience's trust. How do I know if the character growth is going to stick, if the next episode is just going to undo everything?

Furthermore, the FMC and the MMC frequently yell at each other, with the MMC being particularly abrasive. Back in the days, the “I can fix him” mentality may have been cute, but in this day and age this would be considered an abusive relationship that no talking things through will solve. I will give kudos to the show for actually going through with the divorce at episode 14 (there are 16 altogether); not many romantic have the balls to do that, so that's a well-executed subversion of expectations. Perhaps this is the much-needed break that both the MMC and FMC need, particularly for the MMC to finally experience some permanent character growth. I don't think I will want to suffer the episodes again just to see the happy ending that spans the last 15 minutes of episode 16, despite all the charm wrought by the FMC.
